Smooth jazz star Kenny G insisted Thursday hes not a foreign provocateur supporting Hong Kongs pro-democracy protests, after Beijing signaled its displeasure over his inharmonious visit and repeated concerns about meddling by external forces.
The American musician created a stir when he tweeted Wednesday about his visit to the semiautonomous southern Chinese city, where thousands of student-led protesters have occupied streets for more than three weeks to press their demands for greater democratic reforms.

Kenny G ???
Haven’t heard that name in years.
.
If Kenny is too chicken to support the Hong Kong citizen’s fight for democracy, he should just be quiet. Nobody has been asking him for an opinion anyway. Don’t be like Cher, or Katy Perry.
He’s the clarinet player with the Little Debbie Wassermann haircut, isn’t he?
I Agree Wit Pat Metheny - Richard Thompson
I agree with Pat Metheny
Kenny’s talents are too teeny
He deserves the crap he’s going to get
He overdubbed himself on Louis
What a musical chop suey
Raised his head above the parapet
Well Louis Armstrong was the king
He practically invented swing
Hero of the twentieth century
He did duets with many a fella
“Fatha” Hines, Big Hoagy, Ella
Strange he never thought of Kenny G
A meeting of great minds, how nice
Like Einstein and Sporty Spice
Digitally fused in an abortion
Kenny fans will doubtless rave
While Satchmo turns inside his grave
Soprano man’s bit off more than his portion
Oh brainless pentatonic riffs
Display our Kenny’s arcane gifts
But we don’t care, his charms are so beguiling
He does play sharp, but let’s be fair
He has such lovely crinkly hair
We hardly notice, we’re too busy smiling
How does he hold those notes so long?
He must be a genius. Wrong!
He just has the mindlessness to do it
He makes Britney sound like scat
If this is jazz I’ll eat my hat
An idle threat, I’ll never have to chew it
So next time you’re in a rendezvous
And Kenny’s sound comes wafting through
Don’t just wince, eliminate the cause
Rip the tape right off the muzak
Pull the plug, or steal a fuse, Jack
The whole room will drown you in applause
Yes, Kenny G has gone too far
The gloves are off, it’s time to spar
Grab your hunting rifle, strap your Colt on
It’s open season on our Ken
But I await the moment when
We lay off him and start on Michael Bolton
I agree with Pat Metheny
Kenny’s talents are too teeny
“Smooth jazz star Kenny G”
BWAAAA! He’s a hack! No musician takes him seriously! He’s elevator music!
“American musician created a stir when he tweeted Wednesday about his visit to the semiautonomous southern Chinese city”
Semiautonomous southern Chinese city?
Wow.
I am shocked and amazed at the new terminology from AP’s handbook.

(G. Gordon Liddy of all people happens to be a Pat Metheny fan!)
Well thank goodness that is out in the open! I can finally sleep now that I know what Kenny G's opinion is on the subject.
Although in all fairness it sounds like he just wants to play his clarinet in a relatively peaceful environment rather then play politics.
Hong Kong protestors are crushed, I'm sure.
>> “Havent heard that name in years.” <<
.
That’s why he had to “make some noise.”
.
“Hes elevator music!”
He’d put the elevator to sleep!
Love the phrase “musical necrophilia”. Fits a great swath of popular music ever since the 80s too.
“Hed put the elevator to sleep!”
Well,,,, that’s the point! Keep everybody calm.
Pat Metheny on Kenny G Question: Pat, could you tell us your opinion about Kenny G - it appears you were quoted as being less than enthusiastic about him and his music. I would say that most of the serious music listeners in the world would not find your opinion surprising or unlikely - but you were vocal about it for the first time. You are generally supportive of other musicians it seems. Pat's Answer: Kenny G is not a musician I really had much of an opinion about at all until recently. There was not much about the way he played that interested me one way or the other either live or on records. I first heard him a number of years ago playing as a sideman with Jeff Lorber when they opened a concert for my band. My impression was that he was someone who had spent a fair amount of time listening to the more pop oriented sax players of that time, like Grover Washington or David Sanborn, but was not really an advanced player, even in that style. He had major rhythmic problems and his harmonic and melodic vocabulary was extremely limited, mostly to pentatonic based and blues-lick derived patterns, and he basically exhibited only a rudimentary understanding of how to function as a professional soloist in an ensemble - Lorber was basically playing him off the bandstand in terms of actual music. But he did show a knack for connecting to the basest impulses of the large crowd by deploying his two or three most effective licks (holding long notes and playing fast runs - never mind that there were lots of harmonic clams in them) at the key moments to elicit a powerful crowd reaction (over and over again). The other main thing I noticed was that he also, as he does to this day, played horribly out of tune - consistently sharp.
He ain’t no jazz giant, that’s why.
My husband requested that I learned “Letter From Home” on piano. I love it and still play it for the family.
Reminds me of our soldiers.
It’s so moving. Makes me think of a soldier opening up a letter from loved ones and reading it.
Brilliant piece, IMHO.

Wow. I was wondering what to think about the situation in Hong Kong. Now I know thanks to Kenny G.
Kenny G. Can you please tell me how to vote in the upcoming USA mid terms? I want to make sure the policy advice I got from Kanye West is solid.
