Since at least Tuesday, satellite data an important input to weather prediction models has stopped flowing into the National Weather Service due to an apparent network outage.
At 1 p.m. today, the National Weather Services National Center for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) issued the following statement warning the outage could impact forecast quality:
NCEP HAS NOT RECEIVED A FULL FEED OF SATELLITE DATA FOR INPUT INTO THE NUMERICAL MODELS SINCE 22/0000Z
POTENTIALLY IMPACTING THE MODEL FORECASTS.NESDIS AND NCEP ARE INVESTIGATING THE ROOT CAUSE OF THE ISSUE. ONCE THE SITUATION IS RESOLVED ANOTHER MESSAGE WILL FOLLOW.

Just make up the data. Whats the difference between short term and long term garbage?
omg, that is so funny!
It works!
They must have Uverse too!
Does this mean they will have to do it the old fashion way and read thermometers? It’s going to harder to fudge the data that way.

Even the satellites see through the “official” forecasters’ scams. They’re on strike!

Yep. Sure. Right. *SNORT*
Oh, No! No Joe Bastardi this weekend? ;)

I have not signed on to Twitter in a long time, but Joe may be dealing with this now.
The only weather forecasts I ever heard which were close to accurate were from the marine Vancouver, Canada station and Peggy’s marine broadcast up in Kodiak, AK. The rest are just wannabees.
