Wingsuits appear to have been inspired by a flying squirrel, with fabric between the arms and legs. Here’s an exciting video shot in the US, base jumping in what looks like Moab, Utah:
Here’s a compilation of wingsuit “proximity flying” from around the world, base jumps, also from planes and helicopters, some very high altitude. Mountains, flying through waterfalls, etc. Urban, between skyscrapers, past the giant statue of Christ in Rio.
It’s got to be one of the most exhilarating experiences imaginable, but I have no idea how anyone learns to do this without killing themselves. From the looks of the names scrolling in the memorial the end, the fatality rate is high.
But, wow. If I were half my age I’d be very tempted.
