Infectious Disease Experts & Multiple Research Studies Suggest Ebola Transmission by Air Can't be Ruled Out
Standard surgical masks are not enough protection against Ebola virus, says a report from the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota. In an extensive commentary submitted to CIDRAP by national experts on respiratory protection and infectious disease transmission, the authors indicate that multiple research studies have shown that aerosol transmission of Ebola virus cannot be ruled out and should be suspected as a possible mode of transmission, and recommends at minimum a powered-air purifying respirators (PAPR) for healthcare workers who knowingly will come into contact with patients with Ebola virus infections.
Dr. Lisa M. Brosseau, ScD, and Rachael Jones, PhD, submitted the commentary published by CIDRAP. Dr. Brosseau is a Professor and Dr. Jones is an assistant professor at the School of Public Health, Division of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences, at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Drs. Brosseau and Jones said that they recommend PAPRs for healthcare workers who may be exposed to Ebola virus over regular surgical facemasks, writing:
"We believe there is scientific and epidemiologic evidence that Ebola virus has the potential to be transmitted via infectious aerosol particles both near and at a distance from infected patients, which means that healthcare workers should be wearing respirators, not facemasks.
The minimum level of protection in high-risk settings should be a respirator with an assigned protection factor greater than 10. A powered air-purifying respirator (PAPR) with a hood or helmet offers many advantages over an N95 filtering facepiece or similar respirator, being more protective, comfortable, and cost-effective in the long run."

This isn't just the opinion of some random dude on the internet. This is straight from the center for infectious disease and research.
Democrats seem less concerned with the truth and more concerned with minimizing this event so it doesn't interfere with their election plans.
Ebola is known as a high consequence pathogen, that is to say, the consequences of making a mistake are high. Well, mistakes have already been made. clearly.
Ebola Gay. LOL
Correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t surgical masks to protect the patient from the surgeons’ germs?
“Correct me if Im wrong, but arent surgical masks to protect the patient from the surgeons germs?”
Geez, another freeper using reality and common sense.
