“Why can’t they do that today?”
We were just discussing this exact issue last night. All the great movies that came from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s, which were the true golden years of movie making, and the complete dearth of anything even remotely watchable today.
When was the last great comedy made for example? Why aren’t great comedies made today?
Why can’t Hollywood turn any one of thousands of great stories in great books into great movies? Jack London anyone? O Pioneers! or My Ántonia by Willa Cather. Sycamore Row or The Painted House by John Grisham. Anything by Frederick Forsyth. Naturally, I could go on for pages, but I’m sure you get my drift.
But back to the question of why? Lack of great screenwriters because of the government education system? Hollywood’s total focus on infusion of “Progressive” propaganda in everything they do? Reliance of special effects and CGI to replace good story, dialog, and acting? All of the above?
Anyone with any better ideas?
I think you hit the nail on the head when you mentioned education. Our universities today are beyond pathetic, it’s been in a downward spiral ever since the 70s when the WW2 era professors started retiring and were replaced with these radical leftist hippies and it’s been a vicious cycle ever since. What astounds me is how incredibly STUPID these grads are, it just stuns me. I’m talking about recent grads who can’t even spell! That just blows my mind. Just look at government for example, most of the people running these depts of government are Ivy league grads yet they are complete and utter F ups to the point where it’s unbelievable. They haven’t a clue in leadership, basic logic or decision making. It’s why we have an idiot as President. This guy is the epitome of a radical leftist education, a grad of Columbia and Harvard and it’s like we got a 4th grader as President. Actually worse, at least a 4th grader would say “Gee ya know, there’s this disease that has the potential to kill millions of people. Maybe it’s a good idea to ENFORCE THE FREAKIN’ BORDERS” But no, what does he do? He goes and parties with with Hollywood dingbats every single night and gets his ass kissed like a baby looking for attention.
