Maybe President Obama should have asked his Cabinet secretaries to sign book-royalty agreements when they took their oaths of office, so he could share in the spoils. Too late now: Here’s Leon Panetta, former defense secretary and CIA director, publishing the third memoir by a top foreign policy official while Obama is still in office.

Panetta confides that he thought Obama was wrong on some key decisions, just as Gates and Clinton did in their memoirs. Which makes this reader ask: Why did these officials continue to serve a president with whose policies they often seemed to disagree? Retrospective candor is fine, but wouldn’t it have been better to speak out at the time and perhaps even resign on principle? The country would have been poorer without their service, but we need officials who will tell the truth publicly, in real time, before they make the book deal.
Which makes this reader ask: Why did people elect a featherweight?

Fixed.

If the Republicans manage to take the Senate, it will be funny watching Obama twist in the wind for the next two years.

I doubt he will tolerate it; he will resign.

If the Republicans take the Senate, the first thing that needs to be done is to have the House and Senate agree to ban TelePrompTers in the Capital (for security reasons).

I will love to see Obama give the State of the Union speech without a TelePrompTer!

“Why did people elect a featherweight?”

In accident reports you’ll often note that the accident is a perfect storm of missteps, the summation of which is disaster. First, the GOP nominated two very weak candidates. I’m not certain weak is the word, so much as candidates who failed to exemplify the principles the GOP allegedly stands for. They failed to create a clear choice as the candidates were essentially progressive lite, in comparison to Obama who is an extra-strength, mega-dose progressive. Next up, the Left swooned at the prospect of overcoming their racial guilt by electing the first “black.” That’s in quotes because, being of Arabic and rich-white-folk descent and he has as much in common with America’s blacks as your average Swede. Far from being the descendant of slaves, he is a descendant of slave masters. But, swoon they did. But blacks were taken in by the skin color and in both elections buses cruised the inner city neighborhoods and the local historically black colleges porting blacks to the polling stations. Then there is the paradoxically stupid Jewish vote. It’s paradoxical in that true conservatives largely support Israel and the Left despises Israel and support the “Palestinians.” Next up came the Left’s superior use of technology to engage the younger voters. The GOP was still in the 19th century where Twitter is something a genteel woman does with her fan to show how excited she is. Lastly, the press literally lied and covered up for Obama. They were like the cleaners spy organizations used to sanitize a scene and dispose of the bodies. When the press was done there was no evidence a crime had ever been committed.

Panetta the stud who revealed and confirmed the role of the paki doctor who is now in prison... great job leon. This dirtbag is nothng nore or less than a clintonite loyalist and shill. He has no principles and should have resigned from the ebola administraiton within a week after seeing jarrett runing things for pure political gain versus the good of the country. Instead he bounced through cia and dod jobs, while flying home every other weekend at gerat taxpayer expense. another pos who should just stfu and vanish...

That explains 2008 to a “T”. But 2012? I’m still reeling..
I voted for the “R” candidate both times, even though they were not my firs or second choices.

Panetta’s motives are mixed, I believe. No question he is the last of the old Democrats with character, values, and an understanding of what it takes to protect our nation’s interests militarily. But to do this book at this time is because his motives are mixed.

Not necessarily in order of importance, I see them as:

1. An element of integrity to tell what really happened and how he fought for what was right. Problem: his integrity wasn’t so strong that he would resign.

2. Truly to express his honest concern for our nation, and expose O for what he is - which all Freepers have known since long before his first election.

3. To give fellow Dems some credibility in an election year when they have little.

4. Typical CYA.

5. Being Hillary’s friend, to boost her chances for the 16 nomination and election.

There of course may be other motives. These seem to be the more obvious ones......

BTW - I’ve never liked O’Reilly - but I loved him last night. He nailed Panetta to the wall. Proving that O’Reilly’s not as tough as he tries to appear, he didn’t do to Obama in his interview what he did to Panetta.....

Should have been listed as number 1 on your list, but no matter, it is on your list.

Leon is a demonRAT with some small part of him still loving America, and he knows that obama is so weak and hates America so much that leon is truly afraid for the country.

Like most ball-less demonRATS, he wouldn't speak out before the election in 2012 when it would have made a difference, but now, when he is pimping his book, bravery is his watchword.

I wouldn't give the demonRAT pimp, and hildabeast's cover, a dime of my money for his book.

An instinctive dealmaker, he loathed the ideological Newt Gingrich, whom he describes here as “childish” and a self-important bully.

A sentiment with which Ignatius (the reviewer) no doubt is in full agreement.

So Panetta is "non-ideological." That means (literally) "no ideas." I fully agree.
