I agree there is a lot of junk in the printer market. I guess that shouldn’t be surprising given many of them sell for less than the cost of an ink/toner refill.
It’s not all junk, though. I have a brother HL-2270D that was dirt cheap, prints on both sides of the paper, and is cheap to operate. It’s held up just fine.
