Big racial problems brewing even then (40 years ago).
South Carolina has trouble brewing. Best of luck to that very nice state.
Orangeburg SC has a black upper class largely due to Claflin & S.C. State universities in downtown. Black doctors, lawyers, & business owners, too.
They couldn’t be more removed from the seething black underclass (city of Orangeburg isn’t majority black but Orangeburg County is) but say & do almost nothing about the high black crime rate.
Eugene Robinson grew up there. Go figure.
