Landlords installing a new screen door on their rental property were shot in a drive-by shooting Wednesday night.
They were making the repairs to a home they owned on Coates Avenue, near East 114th Street, when a man drove by and fired shots out of a car.
Twalann Coates, 31, and Gerald Reed, 25, were shot in the leg and buttocks, respectively.
The couple drove themselves to Marymount Hospital, where Reed was transferred to MetroHealth for further treatment. Both were treated and released.
Police say neighbors heard several shots around 8:15 p.m., and saw the couple limping to their car. About a minute later, they saw a woman and child leave the home.
The woman and child were new tenants in the home and hid in their upstairs apartment during the shooting. They heard Coates and Reed saying they were going to the hospital and left to meet them there.
Police found seven spent .40 caliber casings in the street and multiple rounds that struck the home.

No need to guess. I saw E. 114th street decades ago. You might run through the area but you sure don’t want to jog or walk.
Does “couple” mean “two people,” in this context, or something else?
Anyway, it seems as if a drive-by would be more likely to be intended for a tenant, who could be expected to be at the property more often than the owners.

I am confused. I thought the reasoning behind names like Twalann were to honor the heritage etc of their ‘African Roots’.
Last time I checked, Liberia was in Africa, even though a ‘newer’ country that ‘we’ had created.
What has me ‘confused’ is the Ebola Transporter from MONROVIA LIBERIA is named Thomas Eric Duncan and the hoodlum from CLEVELAND OHIO is named Twalann.
Maybe Thomas Eric Duncan is named in honor of HIS ancestors and an attempt to keep the American Heritage alive in Liberia?

I’ve had some doozies for landlords, but this is ridiculous.
One of these days the thug babies are going to figure that holding the gun sideways and pushing the bullets out is what cause all leg and butt shots.
Turning it the right way may cause an epidemic of criminal cases cleared and future crimes averted.
Add in the cost of Kevlar shingles to the rent.
Maybe not if their Obamacare was paid up to date.
