Police work, by it's nature is not amenable to video recording.

Effective law enforcement requires the effective use of officer discretion and on the spot judgment.

Having a running video log robs the officer of of his most valuable asset, which is his discretion.

Hey, Joe, how ya doin? You treating my sister right? Well, you can just go on your way. If I had known it was you I wouldn't have pulled you over at all.

So, the body camera will make him stupid? Do car cams have the same effect on cops?

Hogwash. Our local PD has it, they have no problem.

L.A. needs to get on the stick and start disciplining officers for damaging equipment.

“Police work, by it’s nature is not amenable to video recording.

Bull on all levels. Tell us, how does video evidence removed ‘discretion’? And exactly what is that discretion? To shoot people and then lie about them making ‘an aggressive move’? A lot of criminal cops, or just tin gods, have been dealt with because of video evidence of their actions. Remove that, and what will we use to keep them in line? Cops have made it clear they won’t control their own. “He’s my brother officer! So what if he wrongfully killed that kid.” They control the whole situation, making it easy to dispose of evidence they don’t like.

News flash, when a crime happens, it is cops called to investigate it. When it is a cop accused of a crime, his BUDDIES are the initial investigators and handle the evidence.
These cameras are the only real tool we have to controlling the punks infesting LE. The ego nuts, my crap don’t stink, incompetent mistakes, corrupt behavior, our right CYA lies, on and on.
There are a lot of huge problems with LE, and cameras are the only real tool for addressing them. AND THAT IS WHY COPS HATE THEM.

BS - cite one good example where having a lapel cam would prevent a good officer from exercising his discretion.
