Pentagon: Most of ISIS’ oil refineries in Syria have been destroyed

The Pentagon says that it has demolished the majority of the oil refineries the Islamic State has been using to fund its terrorist activities and now is systematically destroying the Syria-based stockpiles that support the terrorist network’s fighters in Iraq.

Over the past several days, the U.S. military and its Arab nation partners have pummeled eastern Syria with missiles, razing 16 of about 20 Islamic State-controlled oil refineries, a senior Pentagon official said. Now, the multinational operation will focus on hindering the extremist group’s ability to conduct combat in Iraq.

Where’s the ‘no blood for oil’ crowd? Have Sean and Susan left yet to become human shields?

I read a report that ISIS is a mile from Baghdad. Why are we bombing Syria? Seems to me that Syria would prefer to have those refineries recaptured rather than destroyed.

Is Obama using ISIS as a pretense to attack Syria?

With the destruction of the oil refineries, many operating personnel must’ve been killed.

The latter are in short supply.

I have a question about this whole Syria thing.

Perhaps I haven't been paying enough attention but before all this ISIS/ISIL crap got going, Assad was full of bluster puffing out his chest and rattling what sabres he has.

Then all of a sudden the US is bombing locations in Syria. Sending smart bombs and cruise missiles into a sovereign nation.

My question is (if anyone can answer); What is Assad's position in all of this? Is he asking for us to do this? Pissed off that we have done this? Is he the enemy? Is he in with ISIS? I haven't heard any noise from him so I'm not sure who aligns with whom.

The reason for the bombing of Isil controlled oil refineries is two fold:

1. Destroying their ability to supply their troops with gasoline and diesel.
2. To eliminate the cash that they are receiving from oil sales.

This is part of our standard military doctrine, impair their ability to provide the supplies needed by their troops. You will see more of that in the near future.

One of the best kept secrets with the crisis in Iraq/Syria/? and other oil producing countries, is how the price of gasoline and oil in America keeps coming down.

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2014/sep/8/us-oil-surplus-eases-prices-in-global-crises/?page=all

Increased U.S. production is helping to create an oil surplus on world markets, driving down prices despite a myriad of threats to oil supplies, and doing more to crush Russia’s economy than the sanctions imposed by the U.S. and European Union, said Chris Faulkner, chief executive of Breitling Energy.
