Thanks for your professional advice, that’s exactly what my hygienist tells me but I’ve never heard of anyone using Ajax or Comet on their teeth...Yikes. :-)

I’ve never used Crest but I had a bout with those symptoms less than a year ago and it was miserable. My hygienist worked on me and suggested an electric toothbrush and Peroxyl and it cleared up, haven’t had another problem and I use the Peroxyl sparingly now.

As for toothpaste, I recommend the plain, original formula of whatever brand name that you like. Tartar control and whitening ingredients can cause sensitivity or ulcers. If you want to make a paste out of peroxide and baking soda for occasional use, once or twice a month, that is fine for whitening and surface stain removal. More frequently may be too abrasive. People with diabetes, high blood pressure/heart disease, and people who smoke usually have a high risk of gum disease. I know many people who are anti-fluoride. If you quit using fluoride toothpaste, you will probably get many more cavities. If you are not prone to cavities, you are probably more prone to gum disease. (People with lower pH saliva in their mouths get more cavities, people with higher pH saliva tend to get gum disease and build up tartar/calculus easier.) People who use baking soda and peroxide regularly tend to form more tartar buildup. Fluoridated water does nothing to prevent decay in adults. It only helps children, whose teeth are still forming.
