LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) This weeks heat wave just got hotter after power was knocked out to thousands of customers throughout Los Angeles County.
Utility crews were working Tuesday to restore power to about 7,000 customers throughout Los Angeles County, including about 3,000 in the city of Los Angeles.
Among the communities affected as of mid-morning in the city of Los Angeles was the Los Feliz area, where about 1,100 customers were without electricity, LADWP spokeswoman Jane Galbraith said.
Overnight, outages were also reported in Brentwood and Sherman Oaks.
In Southern California Edisons jurisdiction, about 4,000 customers were without electricity as of 10:15 a.m., the utility reported.
To conserve energy, customers should set their thermostats at 78 degrees between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m., the time of day it takes the most power to cool a room. Reserve the use of major appliances to evening hours and keep blinds and curtains closed to keep homes cool.
Hey, I have a GREAT IDEA!
Let’s take all the coal and hydro electric plants offline and replace them with weather-reliant electric plants.
It’s the customers fault. Of course THEY should set their thermostats at 78. Heaven forbit updating the power grid and supply with reliable power plants.
Lets give more thought to putting all those EV’s on the road that 0bummer wants.
Welcome to Liberal Democrat Utopia
Hey, I forgot about that -
OK, let’s take all the coal & hydro offline for environmental reasons,
then put electric vehicles ON the grid for environmental reasons.
What could go wrong?
Ain’t it the truth!!
It wouldn’t clean up air quality cuz people would be cooking in their backyards on campfires.
Coming soon to a neighborhood near you, and to your neighborhood. It’s not nice to fool with Mother Power Grid. Wishing away coal fired electricity generating plants does not mean that the new carbon friendly energy production will be sufficient for demand. Fooled you people yet again!
They now have a small “carbon footprint”
Anyone in California nutty enough to believe the global warming scam should have their power shut off and their driver's licenses taken away.
No fossil fuels for enviro-nazis!
But it would accomplish the real goal of creating a larger difference between the lifestyle of the elite and that of the “commoner”.
*Wishing away coal fired electricity generating plants does not mean that the new carbon friendly energy production will be sufficient for demand. *
Anthony says: “Don’t wish coal into the cornfield!”
Why were there power outages?
Good question. One the reporter should have asked.
So, Albert Hammond lied...
When bathouse Barry and his friends kill coal fired power plants you will see power disruptions become common place. At that point millions of homes will purchase deisel generators, at least until the EPA kills that industry as well. Any body wonder how clean the air over a city will be when 50,000 deisel generators are running at once.
Greater Los Angles has a population of 12.8M people.
7k losing power in a heat wave is par for the course. It is old infrastructure going out.
We are doing just fine using America’s ample natural gas supplies.
Thank you very much.
Maybe nutty but I had just read a story about ISIS terrorists coming across the border and, among other things, messing with the power grid.
78 degrees? Wowzers. No wonder they have blackouts. My thermostat hasn’t been below 80 all summer. Not bad once you get used to it.
