See it?
The 1st time I saw it, I came around a corner, behind some faux column and came face to face with this life size portrait.
The colors, size, the extreme details and the head separated down a stair took my breath away.
Keep in mind I had been to the Picasso museum and spent an hour admiring the duality of man vs beast in “The Bull Fighter”.
My favorite portrait ever and I have a copy above my desk to remind me of what it takes to live fully.
Wish I owned the original but, will be happy to for a copy someday, so I can take in the lighting and shadow of the brush strokes as various and different light conditions changes it.

To make up for it, SyFy is running Spartacus, and there are plenty of beheadings in that series.

Great. Lets make sure that no ones feelings are hurt because the association may offend muslims and negatively impact the multiculti dream.
Yeah. These feigned efforts of sensitivity miss their marks.

Watch the Tutors.
The bravest getting the ax was Thomas More, but then I guess he was grateful to Henry for rescinding, the original sentence of being garroted followed by being drawn and quartered.
The most gruesome was Thomas Cromwell's execution. The executioner was drunk and by the 5 chop, the Beefeater took over and finished him off.

Here is a pic of two kids viewing it, to give you a sense of the size. Just amazing and if you ever go to the Louvre, check out "The Last Supper" which is larger than the walls of many living rooms or "The Night Watch" by Rembrandt. Amazing stuff.

Yeah but, who will prevail?
See, it’s not certain.
You have a sense of the beast, programmed by a brutish and unthinking will to live.
Then, you have the huma agressor who has twk thumbs and can formulate a strategy to gracefully and with aplomb end the battle.
But, what happens when the two collide and an error is made by the thinker?
He can resort to his brutish nature and will his mind to formulate a strategy to win but, it must be accompanied by his brutish nature if he wishes to survive.
And that’s life.
Many times we display an artful and amazing series of acts that enable us to look “Mahvelous!” while achieving our end game, and other times it’s just gonna require an amazing flourish of less graceful actions but, make no mistake, you can win...it’s always a matter of will.
Love this portrait.
Wish I were Thomas Crowne and I’d steal it, so I could admire it’s beauty, in private, as I smoked an Ashton cigar and imbibed a wonderful cognac.

Years ago I was a visiting scholar at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis in Vienna. One Saturday I went through the Vienna art museum. I was just carried away at viewing the "old Masters" paintings on display: Rembrandt, etc. Magnificent. Then I went through the "modern art" wing. It was appalling. Just blobs of color on the canvas. This is art? No, it was a betrayal not only of art but of Western Culture. The decay goes back to the early 20th Century.
