Students can wave goodbye to being driven to university by embarrassing parents in an overloaded car – and pay to arrive in style instead.

Launching on Monday, The Very Important Fresher package offers those with the budget the option to travel to campus by helicopter, private jet, Ferrari or Aston Martin.

Other luxury options include a Rolls Royce Phantom, Mclaren P1 – and even a horse and carriage - which will set buyers back up to £25,000.

My how times have changed. I went away to college in something that look a lot like this (mine was all yellow):

Lived in it the first three weeks of Freshman year until I got a dorm room.

The Rolls is ugly, the McLaren is nice. The Aston Martin could use some styling work, and they really should get a sharper looking horse for the carriage.

I remember the bumper stickers students would have on their cars for the trip down to Spring Break locations in the south that read, “Arrive Stoned”.
