The troubled city school system opened three new high schools Monday in an effort to show that officials are committed to innovating and boosting achievement despite fewer resources and the specter of massive layoffs.
Superintendent William Hite enthusiastically greeted the founding staff and students at The LINC school, even while expressing uncertainty about the districts precarious finances. He made $32 million in cuts last month to ensure classes could start on time for all 135,000 public school students.
Im really concerned about our ability to sustain the staffing levels we have at the moment, Hite said.

Read that very carefully - "staffing levels". In Maryland, they did away with the standards for expelling students because the statisics of expelled students appeared to be "racist" in the opinion of some. Now they can't find enough teachers to staff inner city schools - wonder why ...
How many “new students” do they have from south of the border. I just can’t imagine having a son or daughter in schools with such problems. It would be home school. .. no other options. In our rural area the homeschoolers meet in a central location in the county, I think once a week. . .I’m not sure about that. . but I have been told the numbers are increasing.
Clearly, these tools haven’t yet learned that you simply cannot educate a kid whom refuses to be educated.
Meanwhile, they waste millions of hard-earned taxpayer dollars.
The Philadelphia union goons and their democrat enablers have destroyed the school system in the city of Brotherly Love.
Even though taxpayers pay over $14,000 to educate each and every child there...almost 50% can’t read at their age level.
And the teachers pay NOTHING for their health care...
And they ALWAYS NEED more money. And the republicans are racists for not giving it away with both hands...
