Some of the most incredible footage of the tsunami that hit Japan in March 2011. Check out the ghostly image at 11m 10s. It's in the lower left quadrant of the screen. One of the witnesses says, 'Did you see that spooky being'? At least that was the translation.
Gas cylinder.
bttt
A compressed gas being released as the tank is punctured.
I saw this video before, without the captioning. It is kind of spooky but I agree that it’s some kind of gas escaping. After I retired in January, 2012 I was almost obsessed with watching tsunami videos on Youtube. There are some out there that are even worse than this one.
It's worth the search.
Thanks for reminding us about the underappreciated scale of this incredible demonstration of nature's relentless power.
I recently got an ad that stated, “A tsunami could hit at any time. Do you want to be notified on your phone...” Where I live in Tennessee, no amount of warning will help if a tsunami is going to hit me.
I am reminded of The Moon is a Harsh Mistress. The Loonies on the Moon broadcast that they will throw rocks at Earth in designated remote locations to show why they should be taken seriously and given freedom. Thousands gather at the remote sites to watch the rocks come in and are killed.
What no one seems to consider is the possibility of undersea landslides off the continental shelf, for which there may little if any warning. The Moment of Repose and stability of the drop to abyssal depths from the edge of the shelf is disputed, as are whether the area shows signs of cyclical inundations of a strength sufficient even to force a wave up the Chesapeake and into the rivers, including the Potomac.
The New Madrid swarm caused damage to plate and plaster in Washington, during the Madison administration.
But, the Sun will come up tomorrow... until it doesn't.
The New Madrid or Yellowstone could get me, but if a tsunami is involved, I doubt warning will help.
