Is there any other war where the Congress of the United States awarded medals to enemy soldiers?............................. I was thinking more in line with the CSA giving out a MOH. Did one exist? Pelham died gallantly, in J.E.B. Stuart's command, at Kelly's Ford near Culpepper, Virginia on March 17, 1863 3-1/2 months before Gettysburg.
Later "in 1863, Stuart named his third child Virginia Pelham, in honor of the cannoneer he had admired."
