Obama and the Hollywoodification of Everything

What's real and what is a movie set? Can we tell anymore? Can you?

If we had an honest media, we wouldn't have Obama. To make him fly, they had to cut off their own wings. The media go through the motions of pretending to deliver news. Their real passion is protecting Obama. What's the best way? Keep facts to a minimum. Report on illusions. Any illusions.

So we might have before us a mountain of corruption, fanaticism, and evil. But who notices? Everyone in the media is engaged in a conspiracy to ignore the facts, and then to persuade the public that No Facts is humanity's ordinary state.

The unreal blooms around us. No matter what direction you look in, you are probably seeing something artificial and fabricated, something scripted, rehearsed, and staged, something inauthentic and invalid.

What is the best metaphor for all of this. Did we take drugs and now we are hallucinating? Are we merely special effects in a CGI Nation? Are we living on a fake "Main Street" in a Hollywood back lot?

Here are four wildly different arenas where faking seems to be the norm:

Every day we have a president who stands in front of us and tells us fantasies. We can keep our plan if we like it. Common Core is run by the government but it's NOT federal control of education. And the birth certificate he has on the White House website is genuine, even though all the digital experts say it's not. Who can count Obama's lies?

Second, in education, the essentials known as reading, math, and general knowledge are in decline. Classrooms are full of instructional gimmicks that confuse kids and keep them from advancing. Schools go through the motions; and at the end of all those motions, the kids are the same or perhaps worse. Education becomes make-believe. Schools are dumb by deliberate fraud.

Third, we hear almost every week about a massacre, a shooting. But on the Internet we find people analyzing these events and pointing out discrepancies, Some of these massacres seem to be like scenes in a movie. There are "drills" and "crisis actors." There are people (e.g., Anderson Cooper) apparently delivering lines in front of green screens. There are people who supposedly had their legs blown off but we see video of them lying calmly on the ground, not bleeding at all.

Fourth, a year ago the IRS was ordered to show emails sent and received by Lois Lerner. The IRS said they were working on the request…OOPS all the emails disappeared. The White House would rather deal with suspicions than whatever is in the emails. The media go through the fraud of pretending to believe the White House, instead of saying the only proper response: "You people are lying more than Nixon."

How do we get a grip on all this unreality. On the day of the Sandy Hook shooting, there was a large illuminated sign next to the firehouse that said "EVERYONE MUST CHCECK IN." Who is this EVERYONE? Apparently that refers to a new category of citizen: crisis actors who show up at staged events, rub "blood" on their shirts, and lie on the grass until they can be rescued by "medical people."

Ask yourself this question. Could there ever be a real massacre where there would just happen to be a large, illuminated sign saying EVERYONE MUST CHECK IN?

Here are some metaphors for understanding our dilemma:

An art gallery in Virginia Beach has a show every year called Fabulous Forgeries, where clever artists try to replicate the exact appearance of a well-known masterpiece. Increasingly Obama's America is a display of Fabulous Forgeries.

in Williamsburg, Virginia, the old buildings have been restored, and actors dress up in colonial costumes, and spin yarn and make butter. It's a make-believe village. People go there so they can see how people lived in 1750. But now America's becoming a make-believe village. How can one be sure which display is real or fake?

Catherine the Great of Russia traveled by train to look out at Potamkin, a marvelous place were all the locals were healthy and all flowers were pretty. This fake village has become a symbol of government duplicity. The Czarina never did know how bad off her country was. Why make any reforms? Has America become a Potemkin village?

Six Characters in Search of an Author, the famous play by Luigi Pirandello, explores what's real and not real on the stage: actors, script, audience? We seem now to be living in a play by Pirandello which might be called a Lost Society in Search of a President.

Let's look back at the way the world is for most four-year-olds. The adults tell them about the tooth fairy, Santa Claus, and the stork bringing babies. What do children need to know? That seems to be the guiding philosophy of the Obama administration. Any little fib will do.

Obama at the beginning promised, "Transparency and the rule of law will be the touchstones of this presidency." But now we have the exact opposite.

We have replicated the worst achievement of the Soviet Union—a pervasive unreality. The national joke was: "We pretend to work. And they pretend to pay us."

Dictatorship makes fakery possible. Fakery makes dictatorship possible. It is a "down bound train," as Chuck Berry sang. The only way to break this cycle is to embrace a bold new policy: tell the truth, demand the truth, seek the truth, accept no substitutes for the truth.

We need this in the schools. We need this in the media. We especially need this in the White House.
