A mother finally got a clue!!!
I briefly went to this same school when I was in kindergarten, and a teacher threw a book at me for getting out of my seat to look at a fire truck. My parents withdrew me.
Sounds like this school has problems.
If it were my kid, I’d find this idiot and beat her/him to a bloody pulp.
In my day (elementary school in the 40s) corporal punishment was common in the public school I attended. Heads slammed by books (for talking), ears pulled (usually reserved for boys), heads pushed by the chin against blackboards (they were really black then, not green), and occasionally, a mouth washed out with soap. I never heard of parent protests although I’m sure there were some.
Many years ago, I would have probably thought the parent/child was nuts.
That was until one of ours went to school for a few weeks. We homeschool now, but in those few weeks, we discovered that the teacher was a monster.
She did not harm our child, but physically harmed two others. She was fired the day we withdrew our child, but not because of our child.
She was not suspended, either. I don’t know half the details, but she was lucky to be fired and not end up in prison based only on the bit I know.
Some people teach because it is all they are qualified for in college. The seniority system keeps them employed beyond the point that their incompetence and cruelty becomes known.
It it doesn’t scare you, you aren’t paying attention,
We had corporal punishment when I was in school but I never knew of a kid with a black eye. They used the “board of education” on the seat of the pants. That was it.
Well, sure. Who wouldn't?
This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
Amazing what it takes to get some parents to wake up.
At least she didn’t berate the kid for not toughing it up and learning to fight back.
Or in the case of my daughter - a principal who berated her to toughen up...and shut up and take the abuse.
FWIW, it’s hard to imagine how out of control some kindergarten and pre-school youngsters can be in the classroom. That being said, teachers should be thoroughly screened and taught protocals before they’re left alone in that environment.
