My very first job was working at a KFC in 1972. I remember in the back of the store there was a display on the wall with salt tablets to be taken to counter heatstroke as working in the store in the summer with no air conditioning caused people to have heatstrokes.

Used to have those salt tablet dispensers on board ships as well. But then again our lifeboat supplies included cigarettes back then.

I worked in an aluminum smelter back in the 70's - on a summer day it would be 150 degrees plus on the line. I usually took 5 or 6 salt tablets when the shift started to avoid serious muscle cramps after work - it was a tough job.

I actually manage my blood pressure by adhering to a no-added-salt diet. No fast food, no packaged food, maybe one can of something per week, I basically cook from scratch. Outrageously healthy. No meds. Doc is happy with me.

But, thanks, you bring up a very interesting point. I used to enjoy summer and thrive in hot weather, but this year it’s wiping me out. Could be I actually DO need to use salt when it’s hot out. Will try it for a few days.
