And redneck is not a racial slur?

After reading the story at the link you provided it absolutely should be used by the Redskins team as the next mascot if and when it gets replaced.

After reading the story at the link you provided it absolutely should be used by the Redskins team as the next mascot if and when it gets replaced.

The funny part is that the name absolutely was designed to provoke white people. They expected us to hate it. It was a massive backfire:

The team chose a white man as its mascot to raise awareness and understanding of stereotypes that some cultures endure.

"The message is, let's do something that will let people see the other side of what it's like to be a mascot," Little Owl said. "I am really offended by this mascot issue, and I hope the people that support the Eaton mascot will get offended by this."

[...]

"It's not meant to be vicious, it is meant to be humorous," said Ray White, a Mohawk American Indian on the team. "It puts people in our shoes, and then we can say, 'Now you know how it is, and now you can make a judgement."'

White said many people don't understand how it feels to be victims of a stereotype.

'Fighting Whities' or 'Whites' Name Chosen By UNC Team

The only awareness that was raised was that whites really aren't uptight about this sort of thing.

“I describe myself as a redneck. “

Back in the 70’s, after ‘Jimmah’ was elected President, I was in Georgia on business. I called on a customer in Americus...10 miles from Plains. From his place we took a side trip in his pickup to Plains. On the way he asserted he had done business with Jimmy, been on committees with him, and that before Jimmy was elected he had a respect for the Presidency.

While in Plains (small town, with a lot of evidence that it is a peanut sort of place, we found Billy Carter’s gas station. Now, for any of you uneducated sorts out there reading this, Billy was by far the more intelligent of the two. Inside his gas station, all available space was filled with stacks of Billy’s Beer. Outside was a pickup, obviously Billy’s, that had various things professionally painted on it. On the tailgate was painted ‘Redneck Power’!

Go Wash DC Rednecks!

I find myself hard to insult.

...as a part-Sioux Indian and a very white guy, otherwise.

Someone elses words don’t impact my self image.

...and, FWIW, people don’t make things they don’t respect their mascots. You don’t see any teams called the Effeminate Lady-boys. Warriors, Vikings, Panthers and other things/people who are respected for their strength.

Need a t-shirt with the Redskins logo on it with the words “FREEDOM OF SPEECH” in large letters front and back.
