I'd like to make a contribution to Joni Ernst, but her website requires an address and email. I don't want to get put on every mail and email list out there, so how can I make a contribution without providing this information?
Lying is not an option.
Why don’t you just mail a check, or even a money order?
Send a check?
Set up a throwaway e-mail account?
Send her a bitcoin.
I created a yahoo account under a funny name and always give that email address.
Absolutely. I have several. It's not being dishonest, just practical.
I use a gmail addy for that stuff, so I get 20+ a day from conservative PACs, NRA, gun organizations, and everyone else to right of center wanting money. Once a day I go into it and delete everything.
Plus, it makes it easier for google to share all of my subversive ties with the NSA. /sarc
I have a second email I use exclusively for situations like that.
I use the email of my Senator.
After all, he works for me, right ????
Seriously, go to the post office, get a money order.
The bad thing is that they get not only your email, which I also use an old one that I don’t use for anything but shopping and contributions, but they also have your phone number and mailing address. I hate to rent a postal address just for mail, but I might have to. TP Patriots really are annoying. I tried to tell them that I have too much credit card debt right now, so I cannot give now, or for some time. They will not let you ‘not give’, they want something, even a small amount. I finally have gone to hanging up on them. I’m partly where we are because you try to give to help this person or that, this group or that. I have to rein it in until we can afford it again. And, you’re right. Once ONE of them has your info, they send it to everybody else. We get weekly letters from every single one of them. I’m tired of it.
Is it a mistake to go to the “unsubscribe” link on their emails? That is what I do, and it seems to work.
Good question. As a result of political contributions I have made in recent years I get daily phone calls and emails asking for more.
Well, it kinda works. They might take you off THEIR list but no reason they won’t pass you on to the party or someone else’s list.
Might be more of a problem if a candidate is endorsed by the GOP-E, as in this case.
Mistake because you just confirmed it is an active email account and can be sold to spammers.
Ethical sites will honor your unsubscribe request and just remove your email address from their lists. Unethical ones will consider that request a confirmation they’re reaching a live address and sell that address to other unethical companies.
I donated to Hermann Cain and a couple local conservative campaigns around the country. I know what you mean by spam. It’s endless regardless of “unsubscribe.”
Next time USPS and a plain old paper check
