INGLEWOOD (CBSLA.com) — A boy atop a double-decker bus suffered major injuries Thursday when he slammed into a concrete overpass on the southbound 405 Freeway.

The bus was carrying minors and chaperones under the Arbor Vitae Street overpass in Inglewood just before 8 p.m. when the boy was struck on the head, California Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Powers said.

The boy was taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Harbor City, where he’s listed in critical condition.

CHP would only say he was under 18 years old and lives in Manhattan Beach.

Investigators are trying to figure out if one of the passengers on the upper level stood up.

The bus is owned and operated by Starline Tours but was being chartered for a private party that included minors.

Starline says alcohol is never served on its buses.

The company wouldn’t say where the bus was headed to protect the victim’s privacy.

Despite the accident, tourists on Friday told CBS2/KCAL9′s Jeff Nguyen they’re not afraid on riding on double-deckers.

“I know that I have to be responsible to myself. I don’t worry,” Starline Tours rider Riva Moscoivth said.

From the headlines I thought he was on top of the bus. I can't imagine having a bus tall enough that someone standing can get hit by a bridge. Well, I can imagine the bus tall enough, but thinking that someone, someday might stand up is never going to happen. Maybe the kid did climb up on something goofy off as kids tend to do.

“So thank you for riding. And remember, no standing on the top deck. And for you really tall people, skooch down in your seat a bit and pay attention to the bridges so you don't get your head bashed in. Other than that, relax and enjoy the scenery!”

I'm guessing the kid did climbed up on something and goofing off as kids tend to do. I hope he recovers.

This probably wasn’t the Advanced Placement class.

the Arbor Vitae Street overpass

A drunken illegal alien once smashed his car into mine while it was parked on Arbor Vitae. Had I not left the car a minute earlier, I probably would not be writing this.

Did he “SLAM”? or did the bus he was riding in, “SLAM”? Yea, I thought so.

That there photo reminds me of Obama’s Border Disaster. The bus that tipped over in Mexico this week before they could be illegally dumped on our doorstep.

Note that the bus was on a charter run. Quite possible that the route was not well-mapped, or maybe the driver went off-route - clearance wasn’t there - maybe construction forms, and that was that.
