A hammer-wielding attacker with a long history of mental illness struck two 55-year-old women walking near Navy Pier, causing a head wound to one woman that took about 30 stitches to close, Cook County prosecutors and his family said Thursday.

Jawaun Westbrook, 28, was released on parole last month for a conviction on two counts of aggravated battery to a police officer, Assistant State’s Attorney Lorraine Scaduto said.

I'm not sure which quote is more appropriate:

“But that’s what I’m trying to say, if the hospital would not let them out...if they made (him) take their medication, this world would probably be a safer place.”

or

“I don’t need you to be touching me, dog,”

Here in a nutshell is the reason that the streets of Chicago are running with blood.

The guy was only 28 years old too. He's got a LONG, long life ahead of him in a prison for the mentally ill. In prison they will FORCE the meds into him. Sad.

He needs many, many prayers.

I’ll bet someone with a bigger hammer might convince him to take his meds. (Either that, or they they would keep him from doing it again.)

The crime rate for fatherless boys is very high. It always has been.

Fathers are supposed to teach their sons how to deal with adult male authority. Black fathers have to do that AND also teach their sons how to deal with adult male WHITE authority.

Fatherless boys...knocked-up mama may be very sweet, nice, etcetera, but she simply CANNOT replace a father.

Especially if the meds make them drowsy or dizzy or forgetful. Many, if not most, psychoactive drugs have these side effects.

Yeah, but we can't have too many Jawauns in prison, can we?

It is rather surprising that a crazy person gets bail after committing aggravated battery on a cop.

I know we are having some mixed feelings about cops nowadays, but the fact remains that they are society’s line of defense against the lawless.

If you are going to beat up a cop for sure you are going to beat up 2 middle aged women.

Hence, no bail for you! should have been the proper response.

Problem is that too many cops now view everyone outside their ranks as the enemy. They are alienating those who would support them.
