Is God turning out the lights?

According to the article, the problem isn't missing light. There's plenty of light.

The problem appears to be that there are insufficient light sources in the Universe to account for all that light.

I didn’t see that part. That explains it. The extra light is coming from the great Obama. And old man Bush’s thousand points of light.
