Greetings from Missouri. A great sunny afternoon here in the 70s and low tonight in the 50s. Weather has been very cool and wet this week. So wet that I haven't been able to transplant anything.

I am still harvesting cherry tomatoes off of Mr. indoor tomato. Basil is ready to harvest again from Mr. 2010 plant in a pot. Lemons are still maturing.

Patio tomato has green tomatoes and peppers have some tiny ones starting. I have been pulling garlic. Some of the garlic did make nice bulbs after all. Some of the bulbs had to be dug out, because the area between stalk and the bulb appeared to be very soft and mushy.

Potatoes are doing well above ground, so we'll see what has happened below. I have lettuce ready to eat. The old spinach seeds didn't germinate, so I'll have to get some new seed to plant.

I have a sour dough bread developing - should be ready to bake at about suppertime. Staying home today. Once went out on Friday the 13th, a little red truck plowed into me while changing lanes. The unpleasant memory is what keeps me in - not really superstitous.

Hubby thought he planted cabbage, but instead he planted cabbage root, looks like a big radish and tastes the same. I made some cream of radish soup today. It was pretty good. Have several other recipes to try.

Hope everyone is doing well and having some good gardening experiences. Have a great weekend. God Bless.

We had tremendous rain this past week. 3.5 inches in about an hour. This caused major erosion in our gravel driveway and pummeled the peppers in the garden but didn’t break any.

I picked a couple dozen peppers and will stuff some and dry some this weekend.

Wife’s Garden Walk was last Saturday. 43 people came to see what we have in the way of flowers, plants and veggies.

Folks from Arkansas are in our rental cabin. They’ve been touring the lake attractions and local restaurants.

We cleaned the pontoon boat today to get it ready for the summer boat season. Fun at last...

North Idaho:

Strawberries producing. Blueberries producing. Raspberries filled with blooms.

Garlic is going crazy as are Walla Walla sweet onions.

Rhubarb - can’t get rid of it and on our third harvest.

All herbs doing well.

Have lots of green tomatoes and plant are growing crazy.

Have had mid 70’s to low 80’s with nights in the 50’s.

Very little rain. Thanks to sprinkler system and a great source of underground river in our area - no drought.

I planted 32 tomato plants and have lost three of them for some reason. The three are in different rows and the plants on each side in the same row are thriving. I can’t think of a reason why? I guess they were not healthy when planted. I hope I don’t lose any more!

I staked each tomato plant yesterday, some were growing fast and starting to lean over. My new drip irrigation and fertilizing injection system seems to be working great so far.

I went to the VA Clinic Monday for my first shot of B-12. Will see if I feel any difference. I asked my wife if she would give me the monthly shot and she said she would. She has been giving herself weekly allergy shots for a few years.

My pepper plants continue their slow growth but have noticed a few blooms on the Anaheims and some on the Cubanelles. Replacement ‘maters are taking their sweet time too. Vine cukes are doing well got plenty of blooms so far. Sweet and cinnamon basil starting to take off now and benefited from some rain the other day. Yellow wax beans -— meh-—much better success growing them up north years ago. Gonna hit them all with another round of newly cooked compost but wait until next week so it breaks down a little bit more in the hot sun.

THanks for the thread bump!

Lots of recent rains. Some things are growing, and some are struggling. I truly will be interested to see how it all turns out!

I hope everyone’s efforts are paying off better than mine! LOL!

Blessings to all this day!

Sorry that work (too much work) had kept me from posting. What I picked this week here in rainy Connecticut- Scapes!!

Made some into pesto and plan on grilling the rest on Sunday. Picked a big bowl of strawberries today and lettuce is everywhere. Spinach is about done. Still have some radishes and tons of arugula. Tried Dragon's Tongue arugula this year. Dark green frilly leaf with a purple center. Really cool looking. Can't wait till it's big enough to pick. And peas are starting. Munched a few snow peas right off the vine yesterday.

Life is good.

Sounds like your garden is going well.

I never even realized that it was Friday 13th. Duh!

Not much progress. Sweet potatoes went in last week, but sudden cool weather all week has them languishing. Lots of weeds bit the big one; then today it shot to 85. These tem swings are abrupt, instead of gradual, so plants...and us...have no time to adapt.

Yesterday I processed 3 of our chicks: 64 days old, and the two in the freezer both weighed in at 7-3/4 pounds, fully dressed. The third was pretty much the same, but went into the roasting pan without being weighed 4, more “the runts”, to go.

Have to replant my carrots; only 4 out of the entire row made it.

We will—or the birds will—get strawberries before next Friday.

The temps have been up to 97, but only 95 today.

Something(critter) developed a taste for green tomatos and has robbed all our fruit. My wife says we still have a cluster on one plant, but I didn't see it when I was out there today. Due to the high temps, none of them are flowering or setting fruit now. It is now peak harvest time for tomatos around here, so we missed out completely.

The only thing that is doing well are the peppers both in ground, and in the raised(30"+) containers. Lots of banana peppers, Jalapenos, Cayenne, Chiltepins, and the Ghost peppers are producing well and a bit early, I think.

Wife's flowers are all in peak bloom. The 4 Sunset Lantannas are blooming like crazy. They have a beautiful lily growing and blooming very nicely in them. A very good year for the flowers. We got 2 1/2" of rain in 3 days in the last week, so everything around here is happy.Note utility pole for scale. Lily is just to the right of the pole. Another lily on the right side. It was not yet blooming when I took this picture.

Our first and so far, only harvest this year.

We had a severe storm here yesterday evening. I finally finished cleaning my yard and the neighbor’s yard (she passed away about a year ago) about 4 this afternoon. I have two piles of limbs about three feet wide, three feet tall and about 20 feet long.

We had a message from the reverse 9/11 system that said they will have the green recycling center open from 10AM to 4PM Sat. and Sun. this weekend for people to dispose of fallen limbs and trees.

There is a lot of damage in our neighborhood. One of our friends lost two big limbs from their trees. They are out of town and we are watching their house. Another neighbor lost a fence when a tree on her neighbor’s yard fell over and the roots pulled up the posts.

Just down the road, a house had its roof pulled off and deposited it into the neighboring street and ditches. It is one of the several million dollar homes in our area.

We had two inches of needed rain. It fell in a very short time, so most is probably runoff which should help the lakes. Some areas around Johnson City had over five inches and all that runoff will end up in Lake Travis.

I need to go pick beans this afternoon. I noticed there are a lot of them that have to be pulled. Also some Roma tomatoes. That will be the first of those that I pick this year. All the stalks are loaded.

I had something kill one squash plant this week. I’ve never seen that before. It got a rot just about two inches above the ground and the stem just disintegrated like a gummy type of rot.

My rain guage showed 7” this morning but a neighbor’s showed 3.5”. All I know is it rained so much last night the roof leaked. The cable, phone and internet went out and the lights flickered.

I’ve half-a**ed two rows of weeds the last couple days (skipped today due to the mud) and pulled out all the squash - AGAIN. Every year it’s the same with the squash. Every year I swear it’s the last time I ever plant it. This year is it. No more squash. Ever. I’d planted nastursiums with the squash but very few came up and those are itty bitty so are obviously the wrong time of the year to head off svb which was their purpose. There are volunteer tomatoes popping up in that row so that’s fine.

Need to get some N to the green beans. Should have rotated them this year but they’re easy to pick where they are and offer shade to other plants. Next year they must be rotated.

The birds or squirrels are eating the handful of blackberries but I didn’t expect to get anything this first year anyway. When they’re larger next year, they may need netting.

Hello from Massachusetts! We've had low temps in the mid-fifties this week. Today we had heavy rain off and on. Here's a pic of one of our rhododendrons on 6/8/14:

Gardening in Phoenix in full stop. It’s been over 100 degrees for the past few weeks. People and pets are hibernating indoors in air-conditioned comfort. Plants are being watered regularly by the automatic drip system and some are still producing (zucchini, yardlong beans) and ripening(peppers, tomatoes), but no actual working in the garden happening.

We put up the 50% aluminet shade cloth a couple of weeks ago over the veggie plants. Now we just harvest what gets ripe and wait for the cooler weather in the fall.

Good Morning from La Porte, Texas! I have no idea what my garden is doing, but it’s supposedly rained in San Antonio all week. I couldn’t get the inverted soda bottles to work (they just kept emptying out). Everything was doing so well. I even had a blossom (finally) on the pepper. Lord Willing, I’ll get to SA in the next couple of days.

There is a Plumeria Show & Sale in Clear Lake today at the Bay Area Community Center, 5002 NASA Parkway, Seabrook, Texas- from 9:30 to 3 PM. The Plumeria Society of America (theplumeriasociety dot org) is putting it on.

Newbies: Romaine lettuce will make anyone a gardening lover.
Just spread some Dollar General (or whatever) seeds in a scratch in the ground and keep most of the weeds away from it.
Everything you need to know is on the packet. Fresh lettuce on demand- and you can’t fail!

Experts: Anyone grown intermediate or “long day” onion from seed?
Zone 6,I’m thinking of planting them in Feb under small hoop covers.

I made some cream of radish soup today.

**************************

I am not really a radish fan, but planted some in the garden because they’d come up fairly quick and a few slices in a salad might be colorful.

Anyway, got my first five radishes (small, about nickel size - I didn’t thin them so they’re crowded) the other day and I diced up a couple and put them in some tuna fish salad. I used the leaves instead of lettuce. That was THE best tuna salad sandwich I think I’ve ever had!

It was a busy weekend here in Central Missouri.

Had to replace a leaking fuel line on Mrs. Augie’s 33yo John Deere lawn tractor. It belonged to her Dad and she has this irrational sentimental attachment to it, so I just keep on fixing what breaks.

Pond is all pumped out again. Hopefully we’ll have some sunny weather to dry it out while Nanner is at the tractor doc.

I’m almost finished making the deck safe in preparation for #1 Grandson coming to visit. All that’s left to do is build a pair of swinging gates at the top of the main stairway. The skirting and stairway to the upper level deck can wait for awhile.

With the exception of my eggplants, everything in the garden is doing very well. Maybe it’s been too wet to suit them, but they look pretty sick. They’ll either snap out of it or they won’t I guess.

One of Mrs. Augie’s co-workers gave us a duck on Saturday. We put him in with the chickens, which was probably not the best thing to do, but it’s the only place we have right now to keep him safely fenced in. I’ve got all the material I need to build a new pen for him, so add that to the honey-do list.

We rounded up the cow herd yesterday. Loaded them all and took them to the sale barn. There’s just too much city around the farm now to safely keep them there so we’re selling out. 150yo bloodline scattered to the winds. Shame that, but I’m not going to miss any of the other stuff that goes with being in the cattle business.
