Some parents of students in a science class at Ann Arbor’s Scarlett Middle School are upset that a teacher has returned to the classroom following an investigation into the teacher’s alleged use of a racial slur.

Though some students in Dominic Held’s class claim that he used a derivative of a racial slur during a conversation about intelligence and ignorance, Held stated to administrators that he had stumbled over his words and was tongue-tied, according to documents obtained by The Ann Arbor News through Freedom of Information Act requests.

Held, who is Caucasian, was removed from the classroom and was on paid leave for about three weeks while administrators investigated—during which he was asked to read the book “White Like Me: Reflections on Race By a Privileged Son” by Tim Wise, and then discuss the book with Scarlett Principal Gerald Vazquez and district administrators.

The district threatened to terminate Held’s employment with the district should he commit future misconduct as a teacher, and returned him to his classroom in late April.

However, parents of students in Held’s class believe he should not have returned to the classroom at all—and are critical of the way district administrators have handled the situation.

So basically the teacher did nothing wrong but was still subjected to a little informal social correction and parent's bloodlust isn't sufficiently satisfied.

The guy apparently stumbled over his words and accidentally uttered the big “N”. Liberal parents want him burned at the stake.

In an attempt to explain the difference between intelligence and ignorance during a weekly exercise March 27, Held said the first syllable of the n-word instead of saying “ignorance,” according to the letter from Human Resources Director Cynthia Ryan to Held obtained through a FOIA request.

It gets worse.

You also admitted that you talk about religion. This is inappropriate, unacceptable and will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
