I took a few classes at CSUN and yes, its a nice campus..according to some students, these kind of attacks are the norm, they have happened many times this is just the first time the media has actually reported it

For a state with over 38 million residents, California has had relatively few knockout attacks. One likely factor:

The Western U.S. in general suffers less from this kind of random mayhem.

The bad news: if you do get attacked in California, the offender will get off with a slap on the wrist (if he’s even caught at all).
