What was the usual cause of these scuffles?

I honestly can't say. Perhaps someone made a rude comment. Who knows? All I can say is that the ceremony is moving along, then all of a sudden a fight breaks out in the audience. The school police (pretend police) try to break it up, but to no avail. Then the city police (real police) show up with dogs and guns, and the whole thing gets shut down.

It makes for entertaining theater. Except for the fact that there are decent graduates on stage who deserve a peaceful and dignified ceremony.

I know what you are saying, but I disagree. Roe vs. Wade has led to this perverse Moloch worship where the Nation deems it is OK to sacrifice babies at the altar of "free" and easy sex, and materialism. This has destroyed the sanctity of life, and the institutions of marriage, and family.

So I know where you are coming from, but a Nation that forgets God will reap all kinds of evil. And a Nation that supports abortion on demand is a Nation that has forgotten God.

And one reason I hate Parent-Teacher Night. There is ALWAYS at least one parent (usually of the same persuasion) who starts to get rude, screaming at you, cursing, etc. because their little LaShanda received a failing grade. LaShanda, who was last seen in class 6 months ago and who never turned in any work whatsoever. I don't bother to point our that they never answered any of my phone messages or emails expressing concern over LaShanda's absences or lack of work completed. I smile and pleasantly say, "Oh, I see LaShanda must take after your side of the family. Am I right?" Just before I tell them that they have to leave the room because their behavior is unacceptable.

Many teachers I know have student monitors helping with crowd control on Parent-Teacher Night for just such a reason.

And one reason I hate Parent-Teacher Night.

I hear you. For me, standard procedure is to always start with a compliment: "LaShanda has not brought any weapons to class, to my knowledge." Then I can get more to the point: "However, she has only attended three days in the six weeks."

Oh, and here's one more thing you might find interesting. I've taught in majority-white urban schools and majority-black urban schools. Parent-teacher night was MUCH better attended at the majority-black schools.

The conversations were also much more - shall we say - animated at majority-black schools as well.

Let's put this together:

1. A minority race that feels entitled;
2. A minority race that has been brought up without decent values;
3. A minority race that is mostly fatherless without such discipline;
4. A minority race that doesn't give a damn about the nation they live in and get free bennies, while others die and bleed so they can get the latest sneakers.
5. A majority race that is the same as above, but to a lessor degree (think trailor trash).
