Been a while since I had to do this, but if I remember correctly, if you click the Apple menu in the top left corner, there is an option called “System Information” or something similar, which provides all the technical specs for the system (processor type and speed, memory, etc.).

Figure out your model number (search google about this mac) then you can see what they’re selling for on eBay as that’s a good rule of thumb.

I just sold a Mac Book Air for $480 not counting shipping. It was 3 years old.

In order to get the system info for the computer, go to the menu bar at the top of the screen. Pull down on the Apple icon, and click "About this Mac." A small window will open. Click "More Info" option. Another small window will open that will give you the system info, ie., processor, memory, graphics, serial number and software (operating system).

Since the computer hasn't been used in a while, I'm sure there are software updates available that the computer will install. The software update is located in the Apple Menu icon as well...just below "About this Mac."

If you aren't familiar with the laptop, and don't feel comfortable making the changes, you could take it to an Apple store, or a place that works on Apple computers. They would be able to clean the computer (reformat) it for you.

Are you sure you don't have AppleCare (tech support/warranty) on the MacBook Pro? If you do, and it is still in effect, you can call customer support for help.

I run a couple of MAC’s. You need to reinstall the OS on it. That’s the only way to be sure it’s clean.

had no problem with my CAC card reader.

Do you have authorization to install a CAC reader on personal computer ?

Then someone knows how.

Post number 9 is your best solution to determining the details about
your MAC, which will be quite helpful if you plan on selling it.

Once you know exactly what you have, you can follow some comparables
on eBay to get an idea what the current value of your MAC

The Model Number would be the best place to start.
However, don’t ignore the other information, as your MAC could have
been custom configured, such as a bigger hard drive, more memory
etc.

Knowing exactly what you have will help you research current value.
Having the original box and packing will also help increase value.
In addition, if you purchased Applecare that is still current, that would
increase value.
