Jumping rope is such a great exercise - everybody should do it.

At the US Olympic Training Center, they have all athletes jump rope, no matter what sport.

Needs very little space, no expensive equipment, no need to go out in the rain or cold, and the benefits are exceptional.

Only 5 minutes three times a week provides among the best stimulus to bone density of almost any exercise. Great conditioning and super low injury rate. Great for rehab of leg and back injuries, and almost the best way to warm up tendons, ligaments and cartilage that have inherently poor blood supply and need a lot of gentle pumping to get softened, warmed, hydrated and nourished.

120 skips per minute is roughly an equivalent pace to jogging a ten minute per mile pace. So roughly 1,200 skips to equal a mile. Ten or fifteen minutes is a typical boxing warmup.

If your joints can’t take the beating of running anymore, build up the skill of rope jumping instead and you will enjoy some pain-relieving rehab. It is well worth the time it takes to develop the skill.
