If you’re really talking about one gun for survival, it might be a shotgun instead of a rifle. A shotgun can use so many different types of shot for different game it is much more versatile than a rifle.
A shotgun will take down all sorts of small game (such as birds) that a rifle wouldn’t be able to do or would tear up. It can also take down big game using slugs or buckshot.
A rifle can shoot further and more accurately in the right hands, but lots of shots are at shorter distances and you can learn how to stalk game to get shorter shots.
And in a self-defense mode for survival, a shotgun might also be a good choice since most assaults come at close range, not from a sniper at long distance.

Have a 10-22 just like yours and a
Remington Nylon 66.Have always been
a bit partial to the Remington tho.
Both are great survival guns.
Getting shells for them is the only problem.

for a substantial period of time "foraging" is going to consist of people taking from other people and people protecting what they have. Going to be a lot of dead people before trapping becomes viable (without getting shot). Trapping becomes viable when remaining, smarter people realize that it is far more efficient to not try to raid someone else's supplies. Even a .22LR wound without prompt medical care spells a likely death in a few days, once the infection sets in.

Who has only one rifle? I do. A recreational .22
And only 500 rounds.
So assuming I have a real choice, I am following this thread to plan on a real defense weapon.
Obama and his flying monkeys make me do that.

If you’re attacked by flying wood blocks you’re set. ;)

She is one hell of a woman. Saw a scene where she nailed a wolfe at a lope at over 300 yards with that Communist rifle.Don't leave us hanging!
Who is she?

We're .22 people also -- but a year and a half ago, we bought a 20 gauge Mossberg scattergun that came with the short 'home defense' barrel....wifey doesn't come anywhere near 90 pounds, so a 12 gauge wasn't going to cut the mustard, because the recoil would knock her on her beauty-bottom. It'll do the trick if there's an actual home breach.

You might think about a carbine in 9mm and a pistol in 9mm. Only need to stock one common caliber then.

I’ve got one of those & a Savage Model 24 [.22LR over 20GA]. That also makes a real good survival gun as well.
