Well, this is a law every grown-up in the world may be willing to back.

The Spanish parliament is considering a law requiring children to do their chores. The measure is part of a larger Child Protection Bill in Spain, and if it gets passed, children under 18 will be legally bound to do housework “in accordance with their age and regardless of their gender.”

And it doesn’t stop there.

Under the law, children in Spain will also have to “respect their teachers and fellow students,” “participate in family life” and “respect their parents and siblings.” …

The current draft of the law does not mandate penalties for children who fail to do the things adults have been wanting them to do since the dawn of time.

No, but it does leave that up to the parents, i.e. rather than have the government say that they can’t put the kids in their place.

Married Spanish men can also face legal sanctions for refusing to do housework -

Bad precedent.

A) What if the kid doesn’t do the work? And what if the parent, for whatever reason, chooses not to enforce it?

B) Since when is it any business of the government’s, no matter which government, how any family chooses to raise their kids?

Imagine if the US, with it’s fundamentally-broken and overweening “Child Welfare” agencies, were to implement this law. Parents would almost certainly face legal sanction for not following the law, and yet would also face the potential for Social Services to interfere, both in the case of not adhering to the law, and potentially for assigning chores that the state felt were not appropriate.

Want to see a fire lit under the butts of civil rights groups? Try legislating this idea in the USA. This is right up there with drug testing for public assistance recipients.

The U.S. would never endorse this type of thing. Making kids do chores makes them responsible which in turn rewires the brain to think conservatively. Think of all the potential Democrats it would take away from them. No need to worry. It will never happen here. They want those fat chunky EBT goblins indoctrinated and dependent on the state so that they will punch the Democrat ticket every time.

I think they’ve essentially outlawed spanking in Europe, so they can pass all the laws they want in their area, with no effect.
