That is a good song, and so is “Galveston.” If he wasn’t writing his own pieces, he knew how to pick them.

Young male country singers today rarely have that kind of big, rich voice. I often find myself asking, “Why is this guy a star? He can’t sing!”

My favorite recording of his is his first hit, Turn Around, Look at Me, from the fall of 1961.
