Hot, apple pie with a slice of cheddar cheese melted on top. There was a time when Wisconsin had a law making the cheese mandatory! There was also a law banning oleo dyed to look like butter.
The dairy lobby had a lot of pull in Madistan (20 square miles surrounded by sanity.)

Hot, apple pie with a slice of cheddar cheese melted on top. That is NOT a "weird" combination at all... this is a recommended serving suggestion in old copies of Rombauer's The Joy of Cooking. Then again old copies of that text show in diagrams how to skin a squirrel, and how to prepare a caged Opossum with 3 days of milk rations before dispatching the animal for use as food.
