Lest we forget

Let us not forget how our fearless leader reacted to the LAST Ft. Hood shooting.

TOPICS: Military/Veterans; Society
KEYWORDS: fthood; military
At the time of the Ft. Hood shooting, my husband was working on post, about a block from the confirmed shooting. The phone lines were immediately overwhelmed and I couldn't get through.

The initial reports were insane. They said that two shooters were walking through housing, shooting women and children. Reports were coming in that the local schools were under attack. Basically, every hearsay and speculation was given credence in national news and nobody knew what was really going on.

So I was driving to the school to collect my two kids, not knowing if my husband was dead or alive when I hear our fearless leader come on the air.

At first, I was embarrassed for him. I thought that he hadn't been informed. There was NO WAY that he'd be so insensitive to put out a 'shout out' with a smile, if he'd known.

But no. He freaking KNEW.

About a week later I developed a hatred for the supporters who showed up for the memorial just to bolster their messiah. After his speech, they just got up and left, as a group. With widows and children bawling over photos and boots, they didn't give the slightest care.

THIS is who this man is. THIS is why I despise him.

At least he’s giving the appearance of giving a crap this time around.

“We’re heartbroken...”

Yeah. Right.

They keep going on and on about the measures that were taken after the last time to prevent this from happening again.

But giving these guys back their guns never occurred to them. They keep these brave, trained men like fish in a barrel. Strong, good men - made defenseless by policy.

This is sick.

When seconds count, the police are only minutes away.

It’s a common saying among ‘the right to bear arms’ crowd.

“When seconds count...” meaning that the situation is dire and you have seconds to react...

“The police are only minutes away,” meaning that they aren’t going to show up in time to save your butt.

My point is this: These men are trained professionals. They are handed powerful weapons and live with these weapons for up to a year at a time, while in a foreign country. We trust them with guns all the time.

But, back at home, they are disarmed.

I live on a military base. If I went off post and got my Concealed Carry Permit, I’d still have to disarm, unload my weapon, and place my weapon in a locked case before I went home at night. Soldiers cannot carry weapons on base, even if they have their CCP.

They are disarmed at work and at home by the US gov’t. And we wonder why this happens.

The MP’s won’t get there before a dozen are murdered. Yet we rely on them to save us.

None of this makes sense. That’s like telling off-duty cops that they can’t have a weapon at home. Why would anyone think that this makes sense?

Is that clear?

I was well aware of the meaning, the cop haters have thrown that out many times.

I just didn’t see how it fit here.

Please understand, I’m not anti-cop. But they can’t bend time and space to get to you in time if things get really bad.

They aren’t G-d. They’re only human.

If I called my husband at work to save me, he’d still take five minutes to get to me. I love him, but it’s a fact. I have to take care of myself.

That’s not anti-anybody. It’s a statement of fact.
We disarm soldiers and then marvel that they have no defense against a shooter. They’re not Bruce Lee.

I wasn’t aware that there was a weapons ban until the previous Ford Hood shooting. Needless to say,I was astonished.
