A female security guard, trampled while trying to to stop a group trying to get into Ultra, is showing slight improvement, according to City of Miami Police.
Erica Mack, 28, is still in critical condition but was breathing on her own on Sunday.
According to Miami Police, she was working for Ultra on Friday when she was trampled while trying to stop a group who stormed a fence to get inside the event.
The people who stormed the fence at Southeast 1st Street and Biscayne Boulevard were trying to crash the event since they did not have tickets, according to our news partners the Miami Herald.
Paramedics rushed her to the hospital. They said the situation could have been prevented if people entered Ultra the way they were supposed to.
According to the paper, she suffered severe brain hemorrhaging.
Miamis homicide unit are looking for anyone who may have witnessed the incident.
Miami Police has uniformed and undercover officers inside and outside of Ultra.
Jessica Schulyer said she feels relatively safe inside the gates of Ultra, but shes concerned after hearing what happened to the security guard.
If it could happen to her, it could happen to me, said Schulyer.
City of Miami Comissioner Marc Sarnoff said on Saturday the situation could have been predicted and prevented and he is calling for answers, investigations, and an end to Ultra in Miami.
It was so predictable that stampede situations would happen. We came up with five different scenarios. I challenged risk and all they kept on saying was, Commissioner, what do you want us to do? There was a sort of stampede of people who were trying to get in, very much like what happened last year, but it was about 500 people last year, said Sarnoff. They tried to get into the front gate last year and we had enough security from the City of Miami Police Department. They put their bikes across their chest and they pushed back and they were able to hold the people back. Im asking the Chief and the Chief of Fire to meet with me, the Mayor, and the Miami-Dade County Mayor. Lets get through this weekend and put this thing to bed, never come back again.
Hitler utes! Exterminate them!
Poor girl. I hope she recovers fully.
I remember when we just went down to the lake with a few cases or a keg and cranked the truck stereos.
Thank God they outlawed 18 year old adults from alcohol, closed a lot of land and herded them into ‘controlled’ events ‘for their safety.’ It made those dangerous activities of years past obsolete.../s
Is there a phone app to represent a lighter like we held up at real concerts?
BTW, what the heck is Ultra?
Next time, hold it in a stadium, which is built to control access and deal with large crowds.
Eh just another SxXW loser fest.
Ooops, SxSW
Terribly written headline. Sometimes you see some REALLY bad ones, and this is an example.
...And, what in the hell is “Ultra”?
Yes, there is. I have one on my phone.
Funny, we just had “Runaway Country” in a local park, the same kind of chain-linked venue ... Nothing like that happened here.
The person injured wasn’t one of the kids attending the concert. She is a 28 year old security guard.
I know.
Then you understand that the injured person is not a “girl”, right?
You wrote that she was.
LOL!
