Indian officials are searching for Rolotti after he jumped into the Ganges River to save a woman who fell over.

Indian officials are searching for Hector Rolotti, the Chief Executive of Novecento, after he jumped in the Ganges River to help save a person, but never came out. NBC 6's Jamie Guirola reports.

The co-founder of one of South Florida's most popular restaurants is missing.

Indian officials are searching for 47-year-old Hector Rolotti, the Chief Executive of Novecento, after he jumped in the Ganges River to help save a person, but never came out.

Novcento is a staple in Brickell and it is such a tight knit community that a lot of people have already heard about what happened to Rolotti. Many in the community are calling him a hero.

"I was shocked," said customer Daniella Rodriguez. "He was just doing a good thing you know and he was very young and the fact that he passed away doing a good deed is just so sad."

The owner of the Argentine restaurant and his wife were on a spiritual retreat in India with a group of about 30 people, but the trip came to an abrupt end.

Rolotti and a group of people were standing at the banks of the Ganges when a woman fell in and was swept away by the current. Six men, including Rolotti, jumped in to save her. She was eventually saved and all of the men but Rolotti made it back to land.

His wife is now headed back to the United States where Rolotti has three children.

I’ve seen a video of the bodies floating in this river. I wouldn’t go near it, let alone jump in.

I would have to think twice about eating in a restaurant run by someone who had been swimming in the Ganges.

No attention will be made to another floating body in that river. I have seen photos of birds that landed on the floating body and pecking away.

Just as a sort of counterpoint, I’ve personally bathed in the Ganges and suffered no ill effects whatever.

Felt pretty good, actually.

I’ve been on a boat ride on that river. I didn’t see any bodies in it, but they were cremating dozens of bodies at dusk along the banks of the river. Then they throw the ashes into that river.

They say that drinking the water in Mexico will make you sick.

In India, it will kill you.

Having lived there in the slums (and going back in a month) I can say that MOST of the rivers there are polluted beyond your ability to comprehend. One river in Chennai is so polluted that the water is ink-black with methane bubbles and the smell of it even at half a kilometer away will cause you to instantaneously vomit.

Many rivers in India look like an end-loader carved out a creek in a landfill and flooded it with old used motor oil. And on the banks you will see the Dalit and poor bathing and washing clothes in that filth.

Here is a river near the city of Kakinada:

"Never understood the attraction of going to India."

I knew a (then) young man about 30 years ago. He was a bright student of philosophy who decided that his dissertation would center on Eastern Religions.

He decided on going to India to meet and study with those he considered to be enlightened masters for a year or two. Imagine my surprise when I saw him at a cocktail party just three months after his departure.

So I asked the obvious question: "Why are you back so soon?"

The reply? "I never in my wildest dreams imagined filth of that magnitude."

He has since worked as an accountant.

I pray for your mission and I thank God for such as you who do these things that I admit I’m not strong enough to handle.

In Jesus’ Holy Name I pray that The Holy Spirit protect you.
