Processed foods and soda are the killers. I’ve been on the Atkins diet for 15 years. Meat, cheese, eggs, butter = better health. I have the CBC tests to prove it. Breads, grains, rice, low fat anything not good.
Millions of years of evolution went into creating human bodies that exist to a large degree on animal protein and fat. It’s only in the last 12,000 years or so that we’ve become farmers, and carbohydrates have been able to become the main fuel for most people. Natural selection says - eat your fat, it’s good for you.
Without getting to into the weeds, in the early 80's I spent a few weeks with some real earthy crunchy granola types, macrobiotic, etc., the whole shaboygan. In conversations with them, they had no problem with meat if you chose it, but their discussion of fats was interesting. In regards to oils and margarine etc. they said, look, a good mechanic knows the difference between a fine motor oil for his engine and grease. That last line has stuck with me all these years. When they cooled they preferred real butter and if I remember correct they used only olive oil. All I can say is pass the butter please :-)...
I used that stuff in my popcorn machine. It's great.
The government food triangle is meant to market what the government wants and subsidizes farmers to grow. Mostly grains that when processed are not good for you. Eat close to the earth is my motto. Beef, pork and foul are good for you until the government gets through with regulating that all animals be pumped full of antibiotics and steroids.
I knew a man who raised hogs commercially. He raised a few separately for his family so they wouldn’t get the chemical bomb that he was required to inject in his other animals.
My personal choice is anything I have raised ( meat or vegetable) or hunted.
I had the same results. Optimal blood test results after 6 months of dumping sugar and processed grains. I do have sugar in our home made preserves and jams on occasion. We also make them with sugar substitutes. Lost 25 pounds to boot!

Everything in moderation. Coffee won’t kill you. Neither will sugar. Or carbs. Or whatever. Have a little and move along. You’ll be fine. Overdo anything enough and it’ll probably make you feel bad or kill you.
Congrats! I lost 21 lbs in about 6 months.
It's what they do.
We can start by avoiding all of the false butters in the butter section and using real butter. Those products are just spreadable plastic and dangerous.
We can also stop smoking and go for a brisk 2 mile walk every day.
I use butter, never margarine. Lately I’ve been using coconut oil for some frying. It may sound weird, but it can be really good. Last night I fried up some boneless chicken breast in it. It’s also really good for leftover cocktail shrimp. Dice ‘em up, fry them with a little garlic and make an omelette - awesome.
