Berlin has become the world's first city to have its own internet domain name.
Companies and individuals in the German capital can now request web addresses ending in .berlin as alternatives to the more traditional options of .com, .org or the German national suffix .de.
Addresses will be granted on a first come, first served basis and will each cost about 50 (£42) a year.

City states make more sense than nations. I think nationalism is on the way out, and I think the global debt is what will kill the concept. Small is Better.

Many, many cities have their own domain names. They end in a suffix of .gov.
newyork.gov is an example. Changing the suffix changes the domain name.
So Berlin is not the first city to have its own domain name.
So Berlin is the first city to have its own domain suffix.
