A Florida student, 15, was arrested this week for putting hand sanitizer in a teacher’s Diet Coke can, police report.

Nicholas Lucari is facing a felony charge for allegedly squirting “Germ-X” into Dale Dawson Yount’s drink. The South Walton High School teacher, 69, subsequently “became physically ill” and she sought treatment at a local hospital, according to a Walton County Sheriff’s Office report.

Teachers should net be exposing food to students. Unless it’s Home Ec. Do they teach that anymore?

“As someone speculated, the dummy thought he’d make teacher tipsy.”

Sounds like a rum and coke to me...with a squeeze of lime fragrance.

When I was in high school, someone slipped a teacher LSD. That was really messed up and I don’t remember if they found the culprit. Once the teacher came down he was OK but LSD given to someone who doesn’t know what it is like could have ended really badly.

I never leave any food or drink within sight or reach of students. That’s how much I trust them.

That’s bad news and the kid should be arrested, but it’s not uncommon. Most teachers know better than to leave open beverages where kids can get their hands on them.

This happened to me in the 90’s, a 9th grade student put soap in my tea. After that I learned not to have a drink where students could do harm. Usually it is boy's who do this on a dare. As soon as I had a sip I knew it was not right and another student told me who the culprit was. He did get into trouble as the LEO at the school pressed charges. The student wrote me a very serious apology letter as well as the parent asking me for a second chance for her son. I did not press charges as I did not become ill. However, the student did go before a judge and was read the riot act and did many hours of community service. He learned his lesson. I also learned my lesson. I like to tell this story at the beginning of the school year as a warning.

No excuse for what the little turd did.

However, I’d love the details of the where and when this happened. In our area, if a teacher had an open can of Diet Coke in a classroom, it would be reported like an “assault rifle”!

An old practical joke is to squirt a little bit of Vizine or other eye-drops in a drink. You can’t really taste it but it causes severe bowel cramps and will keep someone in the toilet for 1/2 an hour.

Over reaction. How many calories can there be in hand sanitizer?

Tetrahydrozoline is a poison when ingested. Do a search on people using Visine as a poison.

Now the whole country knows what Nicolas Lucari did when he was 15. The internet has made it easier to find things out. Plus more 15 year olds these days seem to be committing very serious crimes compared to 20 years ago.

With respect to the hand sanitizer, it seems to be a phenomenon that has taken root in American society in recent years. Seems to be hand sanitizer everywhere. It's as if we have all become Michael Jackson, always washing our hands and getting all squeamish about germs and bacteria and such.

Well then, all you are doing is weakening your own immunity system. The human body needs to expose itself to germs and bacteria so that the immune system can get a good workout. If you do not exercise your immunity system, you start to lose functionality.

Try sitting in a chair or lying down on a bed for an entire month. Well, go ahead, try it. Sit in a chair or lie in a bed for an entire month.

Then try to get up and go run a mile or two. Let me know how that works out.

See, you have to exercise your body organs or they will eventually cease to function.
