National Average Labor Participation Rate at 35 year low, February 2014
Department of Labor ^ | 3/8/14

Day before yesterday I heard on the news that the National Average Labor Participation Rate hit a record low of 63.2%. I checked it on the Dept of Labor site this morning and that report was unavailable - even though it was a Google search result, indicating at one time it WAS available. Again, Obama cleans up his ugly mess.

Lucky for us that we’ve turned the corner and are on the road to recovery huh? Dang GW and the Koch brothers caused all this destruction in the country. Right? Right?

I wonder how much the graying of the workforce would affect these numbers. I think that it would reduce labor participation rate somewhat but these numbers seem almost depression rate levels. Does anybody have any stats that would take into consideration the natural reduction in labor force participation and what the rate should be during a healthy, growing economy?

U6 unemployment rate is always worth looking at. We are currently 50% over the rate experienced when Bush was president:

Any of that attributable to the graying of the work force?

Take a look at this table and see age groups 25-54 and 65 and older. The labor participation rate for the former is declining while it is increasing for the latter.

Wow! Thanks. That really puts things in perspective. It is exactly the opposite of how it should be. Obama and his minions have accomplished something very interesting — junior is living with his parents into his 30s and junior’s granny is getting a job to pay for junior’s unemployment.

Out here in the Silicon Slum I can safely tell you that labor “participation” is rather high.

Only one problem.

No Americans Need Apply.

If you’re from Southeast Asia, or China proper, no problems. Your ethnic kin and the EEOC will make sure you are employed no matter how badly you speak the English language, or how poorly you do your job, or how incompetent you really are.

Won’t even talk about the “hispanics”. If you have one on a crew...within weeks it will be the whole crew. Ethnic intimidation will take care of that.

It’s really funny to see people in the upper midwest bemoaning the lack of jobs. Yup, none there.

But out in Sunny California, lots of tech jobs now!

Just don’t expect to get one if you’re ethnic American.

None Dare Call It Discrimination.

Also many seniors cannot afford to retire. Most have not saved enough.

Nah, Social Security is supposed to take care of that. /sarc

The Federal Reserve is not helping those on fixed incomes with their “Let’s Make the Dollar into Monopoly Money Policy”.
