NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Carmen Berra, the wife of New York Yankees great Yogi Berra, has died. She was 85.

The Yankees confirmed that she died Thursday night in New Jersey's Essex County. The team didn't say how she died.

The Berras got married in January 1949 and recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

Yogi Berra, 88, was a 10-time World Series champion with the Yankees as a catcher, had two stints as their manager and now is an unofficial team ambassador, making frequent appearances at games and other events.

I imagine she lived an interesting life. I bet Yogi won’t be far behind. He really looked frail the last time I saw him on the t.v.

My lasting memory of Yogi is kind of the opposite. Yogi in 7th game of the '60 World Series watching Bill Mazeroski's home run going over the left field wall at Forbes field. The scoreboard tells the story of the game.

Yep, that's Yogi playing left field for the Yankees. He was not only a pretty good catcher but he could also play a pretty good outfield too and on top of that, he was without question one of the best hitters in history.

I'm sure that that game was one of the big disappointments of his great career, but for a 12 year old Pirate fan like I was then, it's a moment in time I'll never forget -- watching the mighty Yanks go down to the Pirates.

Yogi is hell of a baseball guy who I have the ultimate respect for. I'm sure his wife was a wonderful woman. May she rest in peace and and my prayers are with her and Yogi.

The lazy and pretentious proudly posture by posting “condolences” on Internet forums, as if the family of the deceased ever read them!

"We'll get to that bridge after we cross it!" -- Not Yogi Berra.

Got others like it?
