There is growing support within the league for expanding the NFL playoff field by two teams, likely beginning in the 2015 season, and the chances are increasing that the franchise owners will consider and potentially vote on such a proposal when they meet next month, according to several people familiar with the deliberations on the issue. I think theres a lot of momentum for it, one of those people said. I dont know for sure if the votes are there yet [among the owners] or not. But there is momentum. A lot of people seem in favor of it.

I think they should have at least one all-gay team.
This is getting as bad as NASCAR.
I wonder why no one boycotts pro-sports for their leftist bullying?
All about the money. Gotta pay for the concussions eventually so another playoff game will come in handy on the bottom line.
I think they should have 50% women on each team and no tackling. Or better yet, let the cheerleaders have the field for the second half and allow tackling. That would be great.
And Dallas will still find a way to not make it in.
Seems like the 1st Round of the existing playoff system is largely a waste. There just aren’t that many competitive games. To me that would indicate that there’s already too many teams making the playoffs.
Expanding the playoffs further is only going to increase the scale of the mismatches.
It’s really not a big expansion, it gets back to the 3 wild card teams per conference they had before expansion and realignment. It would also put a bigger emphasis on winning the conference since #2 would no longer get the bye.
An English soccer style promotion/relegation system would be nice, too. The Redskins and Texans might find themselves battling the Fort Wayne Flyers and Lubbock Lancers for supremacy in the new Continental Football League, trying to earn their way back into the NFL in 2015. :)
You mean besides the Niners?
Hey I know. Let all the teams play in the playoffs. Then they will all feel special, sell more stuff and make more revenue. After all the poor playes on the teams and owners are almost in poverty. Maybe we can take up a collection for them?
(does it really matter?)
Many of the first round blowout actually involve the road team winning, which is part of why they want the expansion, we’re seeing right now that the second best team to not win their division (ie 6th ranked in the playoffs) is better than the 3rd best team to win their division. Now they want to see how the 3rd best team not to win their division will do, and there’s a good chance they’ll do well, AZ finished 10-6 last season and very well could have beaten 2nd ranked Carolina.
I like the all-gay team concept. Maybe they could play an all black team who gets penalized every time they say the n-word.
They’re wringing every last cent out of this game, while they’re killing it. It’s interesting to watch.
They’ve legislated out big hits. A good thing, but we used to watch to see people get “blown up”. Now, even on a clean hit, if it just looks to harsh, the flag comes out. I know they have to do this, people are just too big, fast, and strong for this game.
Don’t even get me started on bad language penalties.
They’ve modified the rules so that it’s a QB game. If you have a good QB, and a decent offensive line, you’ll likely win. If you have a below average QB, you’ll definitely lose. No more cases of a team like the Vikings winning with a Joe Kapp at QB.
Now, they want to dilute the meaning of regular season games. The end of season drama will be for a handful of 7-9 teams trying to qualify for post season.
It’s my opinion that in 10 years, the NFL will be measurably less popular than it is now. But, I’ve been wrong before.
Note: The Browns couldn’t make the playoffs if they allowed 30 teams in, so I don’t have a dog in this fight.
They should live by Title IX.
Were I a college, I’d sue the NFL for talent development revenue sharing.
Every other sports league funds their own. The NFL’s is largely supported by taxpayer dollars, including SALLIE MAE money, grants, bonds, etc.
As such, they need to live with Title IX and fund a female version of the NFL, complete with the development league dollars.
As such, I’m paying for Clowney’s development from collegiate criminal NFL prospect to professional criminal athlete.
A female version of the NFL is only fair. Bring on the Seattle Sea Hags. The San Francisco Androgenites. The New York Goomas. The Detroit She-Crips. The Dallas Cowgirls. The Florida Manatees. The Cincinnati Queens. The Oakland Drug Mules.
Heck, let everyone in.
Scrap the regular season. Have a month long playoff. Single round elimination.
At the end, everyone gets a trophy and a juice box.
Geez does this mean the season will be longer than it already and painfully is?
