the weird thing is, I’ve liked several of his movies. He actually can be subtle and insightful in that format.

He’s pretty hit or miss. More than half his films are way too heavy handed and that just gets in the way of whatever message he wanted to get across. I did like “Crooklyn” though, that was a nice slice of life pic.
