Yes. He was SEC defensive player of the year, these are traditionally first rounders though he was projected even before his announcement to buck the trend and go no earlier than 3rd round and some had him in the 5th. Right there that makes him a “story” for what’s generally an uninteresting event.
One would hope that his, ‘coming out’, was not a cynical attempt at helping his draft selection.

He is presently undersized, by NFL standards, for the defensive line. A stud in college does not necessarily translate into stud status in the NFL.
I think that Sam’s coming out may have been done to force whichever team that drafts him from cutting him. I would be surprised if he gets drafted before the third round.
It will be interesting to see if Goodell gives him a big ol’ hug upon being selected.
