His mother, who had been diagnosed with a particularly nasty form of cancer in 2005 when she was only 49, had been receiving treatment through her insurer. She had had the Blue Cross/Blue Shield plan for nearly 20 years. […] Then came November. She, like millions of other Americans, woke up one day and found out that her plan was canceled. […]

Mrs. Blackwood “had an affordable health plan that covered her condition. Our lawmakers weren’t happy with that because … they wanted plans that were affordable and covered her condition. So they gave her a new one. It doesn’t cover her condition and it’s completely unaffordable.” …
