After a respectable 14 podium appearances in Vancouver's 2010 Winter Olympics, South Korea's outlook was bright coming into the 2014 Games. The Koreans weren't able to live up to expectations, earning only eight medals in Sochi, but they were the best in the world in one unfortunate category: finishing last.
South Korean Olympians finished in the bottom three places in an astounding 19 different events, more often than any other participating country.

To me, that means they are willing to compete in more sports. They did better than other similarly sized countries (e.g. UK).
Well atleast they participated in those events.
Others chose not to or didn’t qualify to even participate.
Had they gone that route others would have had the Last Place honor.

When you have multi-millionaires with their own personal "teams" competing in the Olympics (I'm looking at you, Shawn White), it just doesn't seem very... sporting.

All those South Korean athletes who are accorded the Last Place honor have another honor as well — they are Sochi 2014 Olympians and that’s an honor in and of itself that a whole lot of people wish they could claim.
Well, The best Korean athelete, “Victor Ahn” did compete as a newly-minted Russian. He won 3 gold and a silver for his new Motherland. The Russians also collected two golds from an American-turned-Russian snowboarder.
Most of the medals we won were in the recently added “Extreme” events.
If these were the Games of 20 years ago, the US would have fared very poorly in the Tradition Winter Olympics events.
Agreed! And they will be BACK! Good for the South Koreans!!
