WOW! And I thought my job before retiring was cake. So, when they are actually there, 75% of the time, how much of that 75% is actual productive "work"? Man am I glad my tax dollars are being so well spent.

(Normal 40/wk job is 2080 hours/yr. The only year I worked less than 2000 hours(in my 36 years) was when I first hired in and that was in July. No year after that did we work less than 2200 hours. Some as high as 3000 hours in a year. Now I got free time. LOL!)

Paper pushers. With computers, paper is mostly obsolete. You can get rid of 90% of grubment spending.

“shutdown/sequester and snow days”

Not sure you can blame the fed gov employee for those. Just thought I’d get that in before the obligatory fed gov employee bashing begins. lol

You are obviously a greedy capitalist pig. If you had worked less, then there would have been more work to spread around and unemployment would have been decreased. You are lucky you didn’t get carted off to the gulag.

A very sad tale of job “lock” indeed... it’s amazing you survived with your sanity intact.

As I remember it, my federal salary was paid to me every two weeks, consisting of an 80 hour block. I accrued what some can title ‘personal leave time’, as well as ‘sick time’.

Sick time was a standard time measurement for every single federal worker, present title and salary notwithstanding. I think that was ‘4’ hours a pay period. You learn quickly to let that accrue, ‘for future use’, or to ‘sell it back’ when you retire.

The ‘personal leave time’ was accrued, as to your ‘years in federal service’, a sliding scale if you will, topping out at ‘8’ hours a pay period, with a ceiling of 240 hours. If you had more than that, in that particular calendar year, you HAD to use them or lose them.

So, you were ‘paid’ when you had a medical appt., or if you had the time built up and out for a job injury, you were paid for it.

Now, while I was in the federal service, they instituted, that differtial shift business.
You had the choice:
1. 80 hours, 8 hrs. a day, Monday through Friday;
2. 80 hours, 9 hrs. a day, with a day off mid-week in the pay period, to account for the extra hour worked each day.
3. 80 hours, 10 hrs. a day, with a day off each week, mid-week, to account for the hours worked.

Do you see the hidden beauty of this plan? If you work a differential shift:

EVERY MAJOR FEDERAL HOLIDAY IS EITHER A MONDAY OR A FRIDAY. JUST LINK IN A ‘PERSONAL DAY’ BETWEEN YOUR ‘OFF-DAY’, AND THE HOLIDAY, AND YOU ARE OFF —THREE— DAYS, AND CHARGED WITH —ONE—!!

It should be part-time work, 29 hours a week, and Obamacare for medical insurance. Period.

"Is Government Work A Full-Time Job"

Why, of course--not only federal but government at all levels. That's why recipients of government and government-linked incomes continue to shout in political speech that they are the "taxpayers" and "producers!" The debt/revenues go in productive circles and create a perpetual motion economic machine!

A government job is a slackers utopia it’s why this regime has hired so many of them for more back up.
